How our curriculum forges mighty futures!
At Emersons Green Primary School, we have designed a curriculum which not only prepares children for the next stage in the education, but also opens up a world of opportunities for their future.
Based on our core mission to ‘forge mighty futures’ the curriculum is authentically inclusive, ensuring that all children build strong healthy relationships, celebrate diversity, respect everyone and foster a sense of community.
It is designed around our four ‘key ingredients for mighty learners’:
Pursuing excellence: We have high expectations for all learners, precisely mapping learning so that it builds on prior knowledge, explicitly teaching key vocabulary as we believe this is fundamental in ensuring children can articulate their thinking. Children are encouraged to critique their learning and strive for excellence through being given opportunities to revisit and improve on their best efforts.
Building bravery: We challenge learners to be resilient and take risks to improve their knowledge and understanding. Being brave within the Emersons Green curriculum means persevering with difficult tasks; being willing to offer ideas to the class and learning from setbacks.
Championing uniqueness: We support the needs of all pupils in the class through adaptive and responsive teaching. Our staff are experts at supporting children with a wide variety of complex needs, especially in relation to physical disabilities and visual impairment.
Embracing practice and effort: We understand that knowledge builds as a result of constant practice and we provide numerous opportunities for children to revisit learning. Fluency in reading, writing and maths are prioritised and children are expected to practise these core skills every day.
