At Emersons Green Primary School, our Design and Technology curriculum embraces our mission of ‘Forging Mighty Futures’ by providing opportunities for all children to reach their full potential as designers and engineers.
- Pursue Excellence – We deliver interesting and exciting Design and Technology lessons to ensure that all children are engaged and keen to learn. Children build and apply a repertoire of knowledge, understanding and skills in order to design and make high quality prototypes and products for a wide range of users.
- Champion Uniqueness – Uniqueness is championed through the use of responsive and adaptive teaching techniques. Children are taught the skills, concepts and knowledge to experiment and create their own works whilst developing their imaginative thinking. They talk about what they like and dislike when designing, making and evaluating.
- Build Bravery – Children are encouraged to be creative and brave when sharing and designing their own ideas. Within Design and Technology, children are taught how to research information, share and design their own ideas, select appropriate tools and techniques, follow safe procedures, and effectively evaluate.
- Embrace Practice and Effort – Children experience a variety of creative and practical activities, as well as being taught the knowledge, understanding and skills required to engage in an iterative process of designing, making and evaluating. Children are taught the importance of being reflective learners and are encouraged to evaluate effectively in order to achieve their full potential as designers and engineers.
