At Emersons Green Primary School, our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum is carefully designed to ensure all children make a strong and confident start to their education. Rooted in our vision of
‘Forging Mighty Futures’, our provision supports every child to develop as a curious, capable and resilient learner.
Our curriculum is designed to pursue excellence, it is inclusive and well sequenced to ensure children develop strong foundations across all seven areas of learning. Through a rich blend of child-initiated play and high-quality adult-led learning, we ensure children gain the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to succeed throughout school and beyond.
We place a strong focus on communication and language, personal, social and emotional development, and physical development – recognising that these prime areas are essential to later learning. Our environment is language-rich and nurturing, enabling children to express themselves, build relationships, and develop confidence in their interactions.
All learning is meaningful and rooted in real-life experiences that reflect the children’s interests and cultural backgrounds. We plan purposeful learning opportunities that promote curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. Our children foster an understanding of the need to
embrace practice and effort through all their learning experiences.
We value and celebrate the uniqueness of every child –
championing uniqueness. Our inclusive curriculum introduces children to a diverse range of people, stories and experiences, helping them to see themselves reflected in their learning and to appreciate the wider world. This supports the development of empathy, respect and cultural awareness from an early age.
Our approach to learning promotes independence, problem-solving and resilience. We teach children that mistakes are part of learning and support them to approach new challenges with confidence and determination –
building bravery.
Parental engagement is central to our approach. We work in close partnership with families, recognising that parents and carers are a child’s first and most important educators. Regular communication, shared observations, and supportive relationships ensure that children benefit from a consistent and collaborative approach to their learning and development.
In the EYFS at Emersons Green, we lay the foundations for a lifelong love of learning. Our children leave the Reception year well-prepared, enthusiastic and ready to embrace the next stage of their education.
