At Emersons Green Primary School, our History curriculum embodies our mission of “Forging Mighty Futures” by nurturing children who are passionate about learning and equipped for future challenges.
- We pursue excellence by delivering engaging and comprehensive historical content that starts with chronology. We build from what the children already know, moving through to substantive knowledge before moving to disciplinary knowledge.
- Uniqueness is championed through the use of responsive and adaptive teaching techniques and forwards/backwards tracking within the disciplinary knowledge strands of our curriculum so that we can build learning for all pupils. Our curriculum also embraces the local historical context – aviation, engineering and slave trade – alongside History in the wider world.
- We build bravery by challenging children to apply their knowledge and reason at a higher level, using their knowledge and sources of evidence to draw possible conclusions about periods in time.
- Through embracing practice and effort our children read widely, acquire the vocabulary, and recall knowledge needed to demonstrate their historical understanding.
