At Emersons Green Primary School, our Religious Education curriculum fulfils our mission of
‘Forging Mighty Futures’ by nurturing children’s spiritual and moral growth, in order that they become enthusiastic learners who are equipped and ready to grow in an ever-changing world.
Religious Education provides a structured, engaging environment where our children are encouraged to
embrace practice and effort so that they can grow their spiritual and moral understanding. Lessons begin by activating prior knowledge through quizzes, followed by teaching core concepts of different faiths. Children develop reading skills in every lesson, observe teacher-led examples, and then complete independent tasks.
Through a pursuit of excellence and meaningful study, children not only gain a strong understanding of major world religions but also learn to apply these values in everyday life. Christianity is taught in every year group, building a solid understanding of its core beliefs. Each year, students also study another principal religion—Judaism, Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, or Sikhism—developing broad and balanced religious literacy.
Our curriculum promotes a championing of uniqueness alongside the development of our school values of kindness, empathy, bravery, and respect. It encourages children to ask difficult questions, express their beliefs with confidence, and consider different viewpoints thoughtfully. We challenge everyone to think critically, use reasoning, and draw informed conclusions.
It also builds bravery, empowering learners to engage with challenging questions, stand up for their beliefs, and respectfully explore differing perspectives. We challenge children to apply their knowledge and reason at a higher level, drawing conclusions which make them think deeply.
Through this holistic approach, Religious Education nurtures a deep sense of self-awareness and commitment to personal and communal growth.
