Medicine
Our Managing Medical Needs policy contains all information relating to how we include and support all children including those with medical needs and individual Health Care Plans.
We will administer medicine in school in certain circumstances:
- children who have long term illnesses and who would not be able to attend school otherwise
- children with emergency medication – inhalers, epipens, epilepsy medication, diabetes
- children who have short term medication that must be administered 4x or more per day
In all cases parents must complete a Medicine form at the school office, medicine must be stored securely in line with school procedures and all medicines MUST have the prescription sticker attached.
Parents are responsible for ensuring medicine is in date.
Dietary needs
Our school kitchen can cater for all dietary needs, please speak to the admin team for further information.
Accidents
If a child has an accident during the school day, a member of staff may administer first aid.
- Minor accidents/injuries may be communicated to you at the end of the school day, this will depend upon the age and stage of development of the child. If your child has had an injury and you want to know more about it then please just ask the class teachers.
- All head injuries will be accompanied by a sticker and a note at the end of the school day and in some cases a phone call home may be made at the time of injury.
- Serious accidents or illness will result in a phone call home at the time of injury. This is often to let you know about it or to ask you to bring some pain relief medication in. In most cases no action is required however if it is and we are unable to contact you we will take any action we think necessary, such as taking the child to a doctor or hospital. If you have any objections to this on religious grounds, you must inform the head teacher in writing.
It is essential all emergency contact information is up to date on Arbor.
Additional Support
The School Nurse visits occasionally to check on the children’s general health; she also weighs and measures the children and tests their eyesight. The nurse also supports our Personal Social Health
The Educational Psychologist is available to offer advice in line with our SEND and Inclusion Policy.
